Hi Chris;

- No offense taken. Tape is in the "clamp" family. Carpenters usually use nails, staples, drywall screws, etc. Woodworkers generally use clamps, tenons, biscuits, etc. and glue. When building tables, desks, bookshelves and the like I've used virtually anything available to serve as a clamp. If it doesn't screw up the appearance of the wood but keeps things tightly together while the glue dries, it is a successful clamp!
