: If you make it exactly 4 1/4" X 22", you fit an 8 1/2 X 11 inch
: sheet of paper cut in half. I started with 60 grit at an angle to the
: grain, then with the grain, followed by 80 and 100. I used 1/4" luan
: which seems to flexible enough to fair the chines and get in some mildly
: concave parts, but stiff enough to sand the tops off bumps. Contact cement
: lets me peel off used paper, but the wood is cheap enough that I have used
: glue and then chucked the used boards.

I also use a 1/4" lauan 4 1/4" x 22" fairing board for most of my sanding. I also found a 1/8" lauan 2 13/16" (8 1/2" devided by 3) x 11" fairing board to be useful in hard curved areas.

I use 3M spray adhesive to attach the sand paper. A heat gun removes it quickly and cleanly.
