Hello Brian,
Because the strongback itself is very stiff (I am refering to a box beam type of external strongback) it does not rely on any outside support (floors) to maintain alignment or stiffness. A strongback on wheels can be moved to any location in your work area - if the floor is uneven you may only have three point contact with it, in which case you can simply shim under the unsupported wheel to prevent any teetering. Again, the strongback is not dependent upon the floor for maintaining stiffness and form alignment.
