Mike,
I’ve been concerned about the polyurethane glue because of its expansion capabilities. This might make easy access into the joints by water due to the flexibility of the boat. I’m coating the entire frame with 2 coats of epoxy.

The underside of the floor panels will be coated with epoxy. The top and sides of the floorboards will be finished with Z-spar captain’s spar varnish.
The cockpit will be similar to a guillemot. I’ll have to keep the cockpit a decent length since I’m long legged lad (36” inseam). Originally I was going to go with a marine plywood base for the cockpit. Just hate to spend the money for that chunk of wood >:(

PS. Still experimenting with laminated red cedar deck beams.
Roger

Roger,
Are you using epoxy to glue the parts together? I hope so, because I have had some failures with the polyurethane glue. It doesn't work well if the pieces don't fit perfectly. Epoxy seems to be more forgiving.
I'm also currently doing some tests of coatings for the polyester skin. I am testing water based outdoor varathane, Z-spar captains spar varnish, Helmsman spar urethane (oil based), and elast-o-seal with snow-roof. I should have an update by the end of the week.
Mike
: Rehd,
: I spaced myself back 3/5th's of the way but still couldn't tell if it was
: correct.
: I measured the distance of the S&G kayak on the front of the CLC brochure.
: The back of the cockpit is 62.3% from the bow. On a 17’ boat, that would
: place the cockpit at 127”. 3/5th’s + 2” would be 124.5”.
: The Guilemot “L” cockpit back is 61% back from the bow which on a 17’ boat
: translates to 124.5 inches. Way to go Mike
: My boat is 18’2” so if I use the 61%, my set back distance will be 133”.
: Mmmm… Nothin’ like a little number crunchin’ to stimulate the mind
