Tom, the advice posted above is very sound....especially about the relative difficulty of building the different boats.....

but, here's my 2 cents worth.....judging by the content and tone of your post, you sound like you are quite willing to ask and learn....and in my mind, the greatest accomplishment you will take from your project is not the boat you build or the fun you will have paddling, but it is the sense of accomplishment and the confidence that you can try something new and be successful.

So, what should you do? don't worry too much about the level of difficulty of the different methods and boats....they are all within reach of a beginning boatbuilder who can ask questions and learn.....but do think about how much time and interest you can devote to the project.....far too many of these projects don't get finished for lack of time and interest...the difference between 100 hours and 250 hours for the different boats is considerable
