: Mike, housewrap, do you mean tyvek? Actually it is quite strong in tension
: just may not stand up to punture (say by a sharp rock,) Have to test it
: out. No clue on abrasion either.
: If you build one out of tyvek, how would you approach that?
: ps: love your plywood Walrus!
Hi Tony,
I'm not Mike w/ the walrus, but was just trying to think of a real cheap sheet good that may be better than say plastic poly sheeting.
I personally don't think the result would be worth the time and effort to make a mache or poly or housewrap(that's what tyvek is sometimes called) for big functional results, but the idea is sort of captivating. But I think of those, that tyvek (or the other names) might be stronger. Susceptible to uv, but I believe that you can heat shrink it, so might make a clean yak. So would need some sort of glue(maybe contact cement, maybe epoxy?), glue up loose, heat shrink and then paint (probably light color to minimize heat absorption and therefore wrinkling - maybe use epoxy paint - sim to Jay Babina's idea for nylon fabric yaks but is a more of a coating than integral). Would make a very light yak but lowish abrasion.
