Had a neat opportunity this a.m. to meet a number of guys(including Jay Babina) paddling Outer Islands, Betsie Bays, Cohos and an assortment of other beautiful boats. As they took off from the CT coastline I struck up a conversation with a fellow who said he taught marine technology.
Well....after describing my plans to build an OI, and my responding to a number of technical questions(to the best of my ability...as I am new at this)...he insisted that we are all using ancient technology when using varnish as a UV protectant. He emphasized that we should be using two-part linear polyurethane, the latest and greatest UV block that according to him...is far superior to varnish. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? Thanks...Bob
