: Any suggestions for a seat? Are there
: ready-made, lightweight seats I could install, or should I custom make one
: from minicell foam? Thanks!
There are several options available. Chesapeake Light Craft offers two seats, the Creature Comfort seat which has a back on it and the Happy Bottom pad which must be used with a backband. Newfound Woodworks has another seat that looks very similar to the Creature Comfort. I have not tried the Creature Comfort seat or the Newfound look-alike, but I've heard good things about them. I have a Happy Bottom seat - which I chose because I like backbands. If you ask around, you'll probably hear a lot of bad things about the Happy Bottom pad - mostly because they are not real comfortable unless you have a really small backside. But they are made from minicell foam, so they can be "adjusted" to fit you. Think of it as buying a piece of minicell foam that's already carved into the basic shape of the seat. Also the built-in hip pads are nice, although I had to trim those as well for a good fit. And they are relatively inexpensive - about the same price as a block of 3" minicell foam.
As you can tell, I like my Happy Bottom seat pad. The initial adjustments were fairly major (slicing about half an inch off each of the hip braces), but left a fairly comfortable seat. After three months of minor adjustments (and I do mean minor - 1/16" here and there), it is now very comfortable.
