: How do you set up to cut the v-groove in the edge of the strips for the
: birdsmouth paddle? I was thinking maybe a pattern cutter in the router
: table with a 45 deg. wedge clamped to the table. I don' have a dado blade,
: don't think my table saw would tilt that much anyway. TIA

Hi Ray,

Most table saws will go to 45*--check that first. I set the saw blade at 45* and set the fence at 1/2 the strip's thickness from the tip of the top tooth. Say that 5 times fast! The blade should be raised just enough to cut halfway into the thickness of the strip (the bottom of the blade will be right at the fence. You probably need a little space at the bottom of your fence or a sacrificial piece of plywood screwed to your fence to prevent damage to the fence/blade. You will also need a zero-clearance table saw insert. Cut a piece of thin plywood the exact shape as your table saw's throat plate and slowly crank the spinning blade up through the insert. Now you don't have to worry about the strip chattering or being pulled down into the wider factory throat plate's slot.

Run the wood through one direction, flip it end-for end, and run it through the other.

: (ps, Joe's wife is already here and he's finishing up some stuff before
: following her)

Sure, right when I get ready to move to Idaho, the guru moves away. (I'll be in Moscow for a year, which is not much closer to Boise than it is to the Puget Sound)
