After spending some time carving my minicell seat to just the right shape, I realized that I did not like it very much for pretty much the same reasons as you, plus the increase in height of the center of gravity. So I used the carved minicell seat as a mold for a "Leidy-style" fiberglass seat. It is just as comfortable as the minicell seat, plus the center of gravity is lower and I was able to save the foam one in case I change my mind later. I just put the seat in a plastic bag, layed the wetted out fiberglass on top, put it into another bag, and covered the seat portion with sand to help the glass conform to the contour.
