You're right on ... quite remiss of me to have forgotten to mention this additional benefit! Well, here is one more note about the Kajak-Sport "mini-hatch": it comes in two shapes (one for "normal" decks, and another for decks with more curvature). Also, if you were considering constructing your own mini-hatch and installing the Kajak-Sport 4" hatch rim & cover, it may be more economical overall to purchase the entire system ... the hatch set would cost about 1/3 of the entire system.
