: In a previous thread, someone (maybe Shawn) was looking for valves to use in
: making float bags. I have been thinking of making some myself but wonder
: how reliable I could make them (float bags). My idea is to not make them
: water proof. I have the use of a commercial sewing machine and lots of
: marine material to sew the bags from. I intend to make them exact fit for
: bow and stern and fill them with bubble wrap, the stuff they ship delicate
: instruments in. I tried some wraped around a brick; submerged in a bucket
: of water for a week and all the air chambers were leak free.
: Anyone see any problems with my idea?
Yup, I do. There will be a lot of water trapped between the bubbles, which will not only add weight, but, depending on how sterile the water is to begin with, will brew all manner of nasty scuz, not to mention what that water will do in time to any wooden bits it contacts. Sounds like a potential biology experiment to me.
That reminds me I should clean my fridge this year!
