My experience is limited so far with only 7 flat edge strips on. My first strip was walnut and so it is the strip that constantly has duck tape applied and stripped off from its edge but its edge doesn't tear. However the cedar strips sometimes do, so what I have been doing is to slit the tape on the top 1/4" edge down the middles of the strip and peal downward inside and outside the haul and it seems to limit any splintering. I have had almost zero tape residue, but when I do I take another piece of tape and wipe its sticky side across the goo and it comes right off. It has been mentioned on this board that cheap duck tape will leave residue. I got my tape at Menards for $5 for 180 yards. It was cheap in price but evidently the quality is good. I have also been tearing my tape into 3 thinner peaces and taping about 3 inches apart.
