I would caution against implementing the seat back mounting method that I showed as my first approximation a week or so ago - - It proved to be somewhat uncomfortable and non-adjustable without a lot of work. Not to say it couldn't eventually work and couldn't be made comfortable, but I agree with many of the posters who told me there are better ways.

Nick, Shawn, Brian and all the rest who took the time to convey their experiences convinced me to use a hanging back, with lots of adjustment and probably a safer wet entry when necessary. I took these ideas, even Vaclav's composite webbing brackets, and adapted it to my seat back. The mods to my original seat back are shown below, and I think it should prove to be much better, especially since I've had the opportunity to "comfort test" the original.

The composite brackets, all 6 of them, were epoxied to the back of the composite seat back. I then covered the entire back with stiff cloth for appearance's sake, and cut slits at the composite brackets for weaving the webbing through. The pic has some temporary webbing installed just to illustrate the use and ultimate appearance.
