Bob,
I put a small, say 6" Kayaksport day hatch on my wife's boat. It has a nice lip about 4" long to grab on to and has 2 spots so you can tether it from either the inside or out. I returned the 7.5" VCP hatch I bought. It was a little too big to fit on the Coho and I think the Kayaksport hatch is easier to remove.
