I recently built an Outer Island kayak designed by Jay Babina using mahogany. The mahogany worked well although the strips were a little tough to bend. I used 3/16" strips which seemed to help. I would post a picture but AT&T's web site seems to be down. Overall I would guess that the boat is about 3-4 pounds heavier than if I had used another less dense wood.
