Sailboat sails have seams and I've never seen it considered an issue, so I don't think it should be a problem in water. Since the seams would run on a bias, it might possibly even have some weird benefit. I would worry more about what that kevlar might do to the structure where it's attached if it were ever to come under anything near it's rated load capacity.
