s&g cockpit placement?

hi all;
i'm building nick's s&g guillemot as my first kayak. the hull is together and the ends are poured. it looks great!
my question is this.....
nick's plans say that the front of the cockpit is 95.5 inches from the bow. iv'e penciled it on the deck that way and it seems to me that with a cockpit that is 29.5 inches long there is going to be a lot more bow than there is stern. the rear of the cockpit is about twenty inches aft of the balance point of the boat. is this correct, or am i building a bird watcher????
