I have both too, and dont really use the scrollsaw much for boatbuilding, except making small parts. Really handy tool though, much more versatile than the bandsaw in that (within the size limitation) you can make almost any shape imaginable. So I disagree with the "small part-not" comment; I think the scrollsaw excels here. I dont use it to shape strips, the hand plane and sanding station work better. I agree wholly with the quality post, I have a cheap bandsaw and a good scrollsaw, so I probably am biased toward the scrollsaw for that reason. Bandsaw for rough cuts, scrollsaw very accurate. Scrollsaw blades are no good on particle board, the glue dulls them. Buy good tools!
: I'm getting ready to build a strip kayak and I've just about got all the
: tools I need.It has been suggested by lots of folks that a bandsaw works
: well to cut forms(as well as other stuff)but wouldn't a scroll saw work
: just as well with the bonus of being used for cutting/fitting strips,
: veneer work etc? Comments or suggestions anyone? Thanks
