: Nick,
: Not sure I follow you. Are you saying you create a fence that has a cove or
: bead on it?

Hey Bill
A zero clearance fence on the router is basically an auxiliary fence that has a hole the shape of your cutter in it, and zero clearance around it. Same as made on the table saw. You get a clear piece of wood for the aux. fence, clamp it to the table on one end, and very slowly slide it into the bit or cutter. Do it in little stages so the wood doesn't burn. Just go to where the tip of the cutter is sticking out, like you would set it when running the strips and stop and back it out. Shut the router off, set your aux. fence in place against the regular fence with screws or clamps of however you desire and then move it back into position over the cutter or bit with the tips sticking out. If you are using a cutter that has a screw or nut on top, then you will have to relieve the area with a chizel, or slightly cut into it with a bandsaw. You can also do it with two seperate pieces of wood, coming from either side of the blade, holding it very secure and just cut into the tip of the wood to relieve it so the bit/cutter will fit. Then attach them so the tips only stick out. Most good shops have a seperate fence for each cutter they use, so they have zero clearance around every one. Less chance of splitting out around the cutter when you are feeding against the direction of rotation, as is the proper way to do it. NO ARROWS PLEASE!! Hope that's understandable.... ???
