I've found that air powered dye grinders are great for this type of work. There are tons of stones, wheels, bits and burrs for these things. The 20-25k rpm makes 'em fast and because of the gyroscopic effect, stable and easy to control. The Dremel sounds familier. The downside of the dye grinder is that it reminds me of the dentist's.
