I think everyone's right when they pointed to the glue freezing as the culprit. It changes it somehow and doesn't seem to get better if the glue is heated. One thing you may want to try (maybe not on this boat)is using Elmer's Dark Wood Glue on Western Red Cedar. The dark glue lines are much less conspicuous than the yellow lines of Titebond. It sticks just fine and looks good on that dark wood. A little more expensive though. Good luck.
