Hi Don,
This is the way I am doing it. My first shear deck strip is only 1/4" wide and so I am cutting the heads off of brad nails and nailing through it into the shear haul strip which is 3/4" wide. When I have sanded both the haul and deck together I will seperate them and pull the headless brads on through the 1/4" deck strip.
