Alcohol will wet the surface so you can see any scars or defects and dry quickly. But you can do the same with water though you'll have to sand again. Big deal!

I don't know about your epoxy but my (System Three resins) epoxy maker says not NEVER use anything but water on wood or resin surface if you are going to apply another coat of resin on top. They say there are too many contaminants that can screw up your adhesion.

The best advise I can give is call your epoxy maker and ask.
