Good points, but it was actually this effect I was thinking about - prevention of splitting. But now that the "3 proofs" sub-thread has been running for some distance, I am getting doubts about hollowing and epoxying. Could they really be so useless as that "scientific" reference page suggests?
But then again, even there, the discussion ends: Unless of course, you do it right... but then he does not say what in his mind (and in his science) constitutes the right and proper execution!
