You can probably get the article from Sea Kayaker if you really want to. As I remember from the article, the author did it pretty much the way you would think... Grab a saw and cut. Make some bulkheads to fit the ends, glass them in place and then mount bolts to hold it all together again. You can probably figure out the details yourself.

I considered doing the operation on my Fast Double. Finding storage for a 25+ foot boat can be tricky, but so far I have been successful so I haven't bothered sawing the lady in half.
