I flew with a one piece Euro paddle last summer (Air Canada). I just showed up with it and they didn't blink an eye. I tied one of their name tags around the loom and handed it over. (Heavy, sturdy paddles are good for some things.) You see lots of people flying with skis, and they are just about as long.

At the time I asked them about some windsurfing gear I wanted to fly, and they said I could have brought the 10.5' board if not for the turboprop leg I had to fly, but they wouldn't fly the 14' mast unless airfreight would take it.

Maybe ask someone else at the airline. You might gat a different answer.
