: bulkheads second. Rigidity may be a problem with some kinds of boats, but
: shouldn't be an issue with a stripper.
: Obviously, I am not seeing what you feel to be the potential problem with
: this method.
yes. I didn't give details. anyway, my concern is that the boat might
not hold it's shape after it is cut because of some stresses that are released
when the boat is cut.
I think these stresses might be more intensive with s&g than with strippers
since with strippers we make the whole boat on the same jig, while with
s&g's it's make the hull then make the deck & then hope they fit & if not,
then stitch them. it's like that with pygmy & alittle different with clc.
another thing is the alignment which isn't necessary if 2 bolted bulkeads
are installed before any cut is made.
here's what I did for a single joint:
make 2 bulkheads, hold them together with the real screws & spacers that will
be used until the end of times. glue the whole assembly in place.
cut the boat. release the screws & separate the pieces.
now! the lip of the cut is never perfect (at least not if I cut it),
but the pieces will always be aligned because the refference is the
bulkheads & not the lip ! I think this issue is very important.
after I cut the thing I applied thickened epoxy on one lip, then I layed
on it "shrink wrap"/"sandwich nylon", I also applied thickened epoxy
on the other lip, & then I assembled everything together for the night.
in the morning I got a perfect fit, no need to seal anything, & any mess
I did on the lip is burried in the epoxy forever.
actually it's not that simple. I skipped few steps, but that's
the general idea.
voila,
Erez
