...at the Boston Paddlesports show last weekend. I have no real interest in rudders, but I have to admit that I was captivated by the SmartTrack system. It appears to be very well designed and the quality of construction is excellent. It operates far more smoothly than any other rudder system I've seen. The footpegs adjust quickly and easily from the cockpit, and the rails fit standard Keepers hole spacing. There's an option for a trim tab and for vertical adjustment of the footpeg rails, plus three different rudder blades. There's even a tension adjustment on the rudder spring, so you don't have to yank your shoulder out of the socket to get it out of the water. Best of all, it doesn't slam into your deck every time you park it. Very nice.

If I ever feel the need to put a rudder on a kayak, this is the system I'd use.
