: thanks for that, crankshafts have been used in polo before, but they have the
: disadvantage in that when the goalie puts their paddle up to block a shot,
: it is very hard to know where the paddle blade is in relation to the shaft
: being held.

: What I am looking at more is the person sitting in the kayak rather than the
: paddles being used. Thank you for your help.

Hi cameron

sounds like a fun project. but if there's not a bunch of info on this specific activities requirements, maybe there's some space for you to start defining them.

Like what does the player have to do to be effective. what range of motions does he need. where are the differences with say play boats. to receive a pass, should the body be able to move or the yak, what's best. is it an asset that the yaks be sideways stable but not necessarily longit. less mass at ends for rotation. thin slicey ends(with in 5cm rule) to dive or rotate under or over adjacent yaks.

maybe if you set a bunch of desired criteria some design ideas somewhat different than typical might come out.

probably the best place to start to get info is some of the organizers of polo competitions or leagues. but also look at other yaks to define the difference of the performance specifications required.

I don't know anything abt wateryakpolo, but it looks from some pics as if the hands are used to catch. if so, is tight outfitting a handicap? or is there a way to lock in and yet move large parts of the body?

looks like fun, keep us updated as you go along. especially any pics or dwgs and why the route you take is chosen.

(I would guess you'd want the paddle neutral in the water to quicly move back and forth, maybe dihedral both sides and not a crank shaft- but i don't know)
