In our MSDS we state that respiratory protection is not normally needed. This is because System Three epoxy contains no solvents and all of the ingredients have low vapor pressure. The product has little or no odor other than an ammonia odor in the dead air space of the hardener bottle and a soapy smell in the dead air space of the resin container.
Commercial epoxy users rarely use respiratory protection for this reason.
Adequate ventilation means some type of air movement or large enough air space (a closed garage in the winter is adequate) so that whatever small amount of vapors that may be present do not concentrate.
We do not routinely wear respirators when producing either the epoxy resin or the hardeners nor are we required to wear them by OSHA or other governmental agencies.
