me too, but what abt using your method but w/ no sandpaper and a cove ctr pc instead of a bead(to support the bacvk of the gouge(veiners??)) and all cut at an angle, you'd have an ok guide. maybe use the squeeze method instead of the clamps.(assuming a 1/4 wide or matched width gouge). but the big drawback - if the strips'r in place - the large round handle would bash the other side or anypart of the nearby yak above or even with it. rats. or just do it befor placeing strip and clamp the gouge sideways on the workbench - maybe a few pcs of wood for guides.
have to worry abt grain on long slopes, and therefore tough on corners.I guess file or sandpaper's best and most minimal.
