You can use wood filler. You can also use some epoxy thickened with wood flour and microfibers. The white microfibers help lighten-up the color to get a better match. The benefit of epoxy is that it is more tenacious than wood filler in staying-put in shallow cracks. Wood filler can often crumble when it gets thin. On the downside, you've got to wait for the epoxy to cure before sanding, and then the sanding is much harder than sanding wood filler.
