The hollow core will make your paddle stiff like a pipe. I really like a flexible paddle myself, so I have a solid loom.

If you want to reduce weight make the core of cedar as I indicated in my previous post.

When I switched from spruce to cedar as the core/blade wood I dropped 1/3 off my paddle weight.
