Walrus Ready to Skin... Opps *Pic*

Sorry about that! But skinning this Walrus will be putting it ON, not taking it off. :)

I just got the trestles finished, except for about 6 on the back side, but will get them in the next few minutes. I'm using epoxy thickened with sawdust from the ROS, and screwing them on, so, by tomorrow morning ( late ) I should be able to remove the frame from the forms for the first time. But.... Not permanently. I have to remove it to glue up the 6 floors that are located next to the forms, and didn't relish the idea of making the forms a permanent member of the frame. Just in case... I hot melt glued some temp. deck beams in place to keep the gunwales in place and not spread. When the floors are done and I can put it back on the forms. I will be removing the screws and drilling out the screw holes and adding dowels instead. Then a good sanding of all the members that will come in contact with the skin ( canvas ) so as not to create any chafeing and then skin away. Opps.. lets not forget to coat the pine frame with something first. Mike Hanks or Bill or Roger... what was that concoction you folks make up with linseed oil?

Yeh, I know, I should have used some of the Dacron, Poly or whatever cloth, but I already bought the Canvas before all the talk started about the synthetics, so, canvas it is. I'll make do. :) If it ever needs to be re-skinned, then I'll update.

Next will be the interior: seats (2), foot braces, thigh braces (?), floatation bags (2) and then the deck beams and stringers and cockpit. In the mean-time, the strongbench will be moved out to the garage and the Great Auk forms applied. My house keeper has been yelling at me to get this d... bench and boat out of the dining room so she can mop!! ( is this what it's like to be married?? Whew!! ) And.... I still have the S&G Rob Roy that can be done on the floor. ( garage floor ) So much to do, so little time.... And don't let me forget paddles. Right David ?? David Barrett is going to show me how he makes them. I also have to get my "Wing" all tore down and polished and put back together so I can Ride. :) 'Tis the Season!!!

Well, back to work! This baby has a date with the front lawn tomorrow. :)
