I use a Crafstman with a clean stream filter in it, and a DeWalt ROS. It gets about 99.8% of the dust, and I dont think any goes by the gore-tex filter. The exhaust port on the vac stirs up the ambient dust in the shop, but that's a housekeeping issue. I'd rather do other things...

If I ever make the time to improve my DC setup, I'll go to a cyclone instead of a drop box, and put an overhead drop right above my main work area. Then make a mini-cyclone out of an old shop vac, or vacuum cleaner motor, and exhaust it into the main DC. It exhausts outside, so there will be no question on efficiency. But for now, the Crapsman and ear muffs do a respectable job.

I dont think you'll need the drop cloths as long as you are religoius about using the shop vac. It's tempting not to, when there is just one little spot to sand. An ambient air filter will do real well at keeping the general atmosphere clean, too.
