As is pointed out here, the cane will eventually stretch and you might bottom out. Unlike a canoe all the weight of your body is supported by the seat. In order to get it low enough for stability the side rails may have to come inboard due to hull curvature. In that case your posterior may get pinched by the rails as you settle into the seat. The cane seat I made for my guideboat has become more comfortable over the years as it stretched, but the side rails are about 24" apart and my posterior isn't that wide! (Talk about user profiles!) So unless your kayak has a lot of beam I'd stick with something other than cane seats. On the other hand, canning is good therapy. Hope this helps.
