: I have picked up a 50" roll of fiberglass tape for the seams. The roll
: is 4" wide and I want to cut it in half,(to have two 2" rolls).
: What is the best method of cutting the roll without unrolling it? Jap saw?
: Razor knife? I want to avoid all the unraveled mess. This is for the seams
: to join the halfs. I'm getting close and getting excited!!!Finishing hatch
: lips over the weekend and hope to have the big joining on Memorial Day.
: Thanks as allways,

Boy you got me. I can't figure a way you're going to cut through all that glass without making a big ball for the trash. Maybe you know a Zen sword master who could do it, but otherwise I'd forget about it.
All the glassing info I've read suggests a 2" overlap of glass on any joint or layer break for maximum strength.
I use 3" seam tape on the inside deck/hull joints of my kayaks and 4" runs of regular cut glass on the outside seams. I don't use finished edge seam tape on the outside because I found the finished edge of the tape always trapped air bubbles.
I suggest using the tape as is. Don't save a penny and sacrifice strength.
All the best,
