Option 1: You can make a removable skeg out of fiberglass and a little wood. Make sure your stern finish is very smooth, then wax it up and apply some PVA mold release. Wrap 4 to 6 layers of glass around the stern. Let the resin cure and pop the fiberglass free. Now you have a fiberglass belt that perfectly fits the back of your boat. Glue a wood skeg to this and coat it with fiberglass. Clean up the edges to let the water flow smoothly. You can hold the belt in place with some duct tape or a shock cord running forward to a hook.
Option 2: make a long low wedge of wood and glue it to the bottom with Silicone sealant (RTV). This will stay in place until you are ready to peel it off. It will take a little clean up work to remove the risidual silicone, but it will come off.
Option 3: Install a more permanent retractable skeg. Some people will find this handy for long go-straight crossings.
: Has anyone heard of such a skeg mount and if so are there any drawings or
: writeups available ?
