Well Paul

The greatest downer is that more prime vigin forest is burnt each and every day than the full timber usage for boat building world wide in ONE day!!

This happens in Central America (Brazil) Africa (Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, and many more countries), Malasia, Indonesia Borneo etc.etc.

The reason for this burning is to satisfy an inane desire for subsistance farming land. "We must have land" so the slogan says'

According to a timber survey of wood used for paper pulp in Canada Spruce in it's various forms is high up there.

As to the ability of most Governments world wide to manage anything related to natural resourses is a joke. However, Canada managed to take the Cod fishery for the good old days on the Grand Banks to a total freeze in 20 years.

Great management. Now the fish have gone what else can we rape. Patagonian tooth fish off Antarctica???

As for the use of wood in boats... Minimal, My suggestion is build brick houses, or mud brick or straw bale, but do not use wood where an acceptable and often better alternative exists.

Rob

Downer:)
