FWIW, I built a pair fo 7'3" yaks for my ( then 8 yr old) son and nephew about 4 years ago. Good easy project that cost about 25 hours and $100/boat. ( 2 sheets of 1/8" luan, 3 qts epoxy and a few scraps of glass) These boats were great for kids in the 100# or less range. They took a beating and paddled deciently.We had fun putting them togeather as well. Unfortunatly, as kids will, they outgrew them this year. My point is that I wouldn't invest too much time and $ into something that will be outgrown.
Anyway, Mine was called the JAM 8. I've seen similar free plans on the web since.
