The problem I see is that you never get to choose where and when you swim. The overwhelming probality is that you will capsize and wet exit in rough conditions. Nothing beats bulkheads for limiting the amount of water a capsized boat takes in. The conditions that cause an unexpected capsize/wet exit will also severly limit your ability to perform a "clean" rescue. Speed in unpacking your tent pales in comparison to the ability to complete a successful rescue when you really have to.

Sorry if I seem to be coming on strong about this, but I do feel this strongly about this subject. My initial reaction to this thread was in the "GR" category of response. I've tried to tone it down to a civil level.
