I frequently record over 10 knots in my Shearwater Baidarka - with the assistance of a good swell, not solely paddle power. Once hit 13 knots in ideal following conditions. Baidarkas are swift!

It has been interesting to read this thread. It seems that the Shooting Star and Norht Star handle a surf break well. My Shearwater tends to ride well until the wave is steep enough for the bow to plane under, then seeks the bottom rapidly. Occasionally, this results in a tooth-rattling, bone-jarring impact with the sand and a sudden need to practice a pirouette. I hope the SS doesn't do this too!

On the weekend just past, I tried a reverse landing in about a four foot surf, to see if this makes for a better landing. OK, so I grounded the stern instead and pivoted on that. You can't win, but you can control the landing afterwards!
