: Great idea,MZ, first, I'm not an expert, but they will tell you that
: styrofoam won't be attacked by epoxy resin, it's polyester that dissolves
: it.
I am so glad to hear ou say this. I recently wrote to the people that make the Snark/Sunflower sailboat (I'm fixing up an old one for my son,) and was very firmly told to use only epoxy resin for repairs or replacement of the plastic shell over the closed cell foam the hull is made from. The local Canadian Tire only sells polyester resins, so I agonized for a while and then went home without it. Before I heard from them, I had been sure that polyester resin was the way to go.
I came back to this board to ask the question, and there was the answer! Now I've had enough sources tell me I was wrong that I can confidently walk into the marine store tomorrow and buy some epoxy resin. Don't worry, I will test a small area before I go crazy with patches.
After I get the Sunflower in the water, maybe then I can get the kayak started.
Thanks, eh?
