The locking 'biner in the photo you posted would not be good for kayaking, since the locking mechanism would be a hindrance and the threads would jam with sand. I like the plastic mini-biners that sell at REI for about $3.00 each. Pricey, considering that you can buy a real 'biner for $5, but they won't corrode, jam or scratch your deck or fishing rod.
