Based purely on the little paddling I did on the initial launch, I don't think a skeg would be necessary, or even advisable for paddling. I'm not even sure how important the leeboard will be actually. My old Snark would go sideways easier with its daggerboard down then the Mill Creek does all by itself. If it tracked much better, it really would be on rails! Rudder isn't installed yet, and I'm not planning on doing it until this winter, when I won't be paddling. The rate things are going right now, I'm not sure how much paddling I'm going to be doing this summer. House buying is such a joy. Leaves me all kinds of free time.
