Build a pair of 17's. They'll have enough cargo capacity for your long trips and will handle long days on the ocean better than 14's. Besides, your wife would probably kill you for real if you stuck her with a slower, 14' boat!
BTW, what's wrong with being 5'8" and 135#?
I also noticed that there is a gap in your coastal waters. Do you have something against NH? Yeah, our coast is tiny, but there's still some decent paddling along it.
