: I'm just about at the point where i'm goinh to sand the boat, and apply the
: varnish. One question: How much sanding do i want to do? Should i take it
: to the point where the whiteness/weave pattern of the glass begins to
: appear, or quit before then? Also, what grit paper should i be using?
I built a Wee Lassie last spring, and sanded to the weave in a couple of spots. I was hoping that the varnish would cover up the deep sanding, but it didn't. At least not entirely. You can see the weave shining through when the sun hits it. Now I'm building a hybrid, and have run into the same problem. It seems that there are places that are hard to sand without gettng into the weave. But what I did this time, by accident, (isn't accident really the mother of invention) is I applied the epoxy over the spots that showed. I then let it set for a few of minutes, enough for the epoxy to be absorbed into the weave again, then I wiped off the remaining epoxy with a dry cloth. I seems to have worked since the weave no longer shows, but I start varnishing today, so time will tell. But I think it will work. Pamela
