Two words: Selway Fisher. Actually, as one word it's their URL. If
your friend is already into canoes, the SF designs are probably closest
in design and performance to a production boat, especially compared to
the flat-bottomed pirogue-style canoes one often sees in S&G.
There's also the Sweet Dream, which can be built in sizes approaching
what you describe. It's by Marc Pettingil (sp?), and comes up high in a
web search.
