Hi there JJ,
I found it worked well using a few thin (1/8" thick and 1/2" wide) strips of Ash.
I planed the ends of the boat down until I had about a half an inch wide area to glue the strips to that went from the point of the bow down just past where the keel strips start. I epoxyed the strips down all at the same time using bungies and duct tape to hold them in place till cured. I did the deck and hull together and shaped it with the handplane and sandpaper and then cut the deck back apart at the sheer after I was done.
A link to a few photo's below.
: I am nearly finished installing the strips on my kayak and I am beginning to
: wonder how to clean up the bow & stern. The strips are all fitted
: fairly well except that I have some gaps where the right and left side
: meet. Options I have considered are laminating a veneer tape on and then
: shaping it but I can only find the pre glued stuff, will that work? Or
: should I use cedar strips? I don't really want to try to fit a solid piece
: of wood tothe shape if I can avoid it. Are there any strength issues that
: I should be aware of? Any help would be great.
: Thanks,
: JJ
